    Tube Question Empty Tube Question

Post by bluemeanies Tue Apr 11, 2017 10:10 am

I been reading people mentioning the KT 150.
IMO I think the KT120 is substantial in the m125 but I do not know much about the 150's.
Is anyone here using the 150's in the m125's.
Also what bias level are you using? I know the 88's and 120's have a .500 setting for two tubes but is it different for the 150's since they run hotter.

    Thanks

    Looks like distinctions without differences.

Writing for myself, I would think/hope that New Sensor would spend its time making a better, more reliable 120 than create a 'new' tube of not-much distinction.

There are a handful of amps out there being sold as KT150 amps but really they're just KT88 amps with KT150 tubes. Doing just a quick search I found one company that seems to make a true KT150 amp. 100W/ch monoblocks for only $50K/pr.

Clearly designing and building transformers for the KT150 is a daunting and probably expensive endeavor. Very few seem to want to risk producing an amplifier for an expensive tube made by only one company.

If I knew how to roll my own transformers I would like to build a proper KT150 amp.

You can use the Tung-Sol KT150 output tube in the VTA M-125's. That said, they are much more expensive than the Tung-Sol KT120 and don't offer anything "more" than the KT120 in the M-125's .. Even when you use the KT120's in the M-125's, the KT120's are being used "as a KT88 or 6550 output tube" in the M-125's.

I'm still waiting to hear from anybody who has bought a quad of those EAT KT-88s at $1600.
