Is anyone currently using this rectifier tube in their ST-120 amp? The are for sale on ebay for $25 and the recommendation is limited as follows:

"The maximum current capability for Shuguang 274B mesh plate tube is 150mA, suitable for tube pre-amp and mono-block single ended and 2A3 mono-block single ended. We would recommend Shuguang 274B rigid plate tube replace for 300B or any valve amplifier which has 5U4/5Z3/5AR4. The maximum current capability for this 274B rigid plate tube is 150mA."

Will this work well in the ST-120? Any reports?

    jdm,

The VTA ST-120's need a rectifier with a 250 milliamp current flow capability. This is at the upper limit of a GZ34 tube rectifier. If a 274B can only flow 150 milliamps then (IMHO) the flow rate is too low to use on the VTA ST-120 or the VTA ST-70 for that matter.

I think Bob can safely say it's more than just his opinion...it's more like a fact!
All you're going to do is burn those tubes out *very* quickly. If you're thinking about that tube because you like the glass shape, you should try to find a GZ33 or GZ37. They're going to be more expensive, but should hold up better.

I assume the Mullard GZ34 F31 (1958)I have been running for a few months meets or exceeds the 250 ma requirements. The Mullard sounds great with the Gold Lion tube set. Shuguang or New Sensor should make a high quality GZ34 as an alternative to the the NOS Mullards from the 50's-60's give the current prices. Thanks for the specs on the ST-120 retifier.

It would be cool to see someone make a replica of the GZ33 tube that Mullard made... Or a re-make of the Big Bottle Mullard GZ37 tube that is a work of art.
