I was reading about the 7193: a single triode with G and A out to a top electrode for better HF characteristics (HF in the sense of RF). but some are saying its a great sounding audio tube. Since the VTA Octal driver board "wastes" a triode in the gain stage 6SN7, I was thinking modifying the board to use a 7193 might be a good idea: you'd not waste that 6SN7 triode and you'd get a better sounding result assuming the people who have switched to 7193's from 6SN7's in other amps they own are correct in that its a better sounding tube.
I might get my hands on a couple and some tube electrode caps and try this out. the 7193 is electronically equivalent to the 6SN7 so it would just be a matter of rewiring the socket a bit. and since the VTA design does not use the other triode this seems like an easy upgrade.
Thoughts?
