Octal Mk 3 with driver board choke Empty Octal Mk 3 with driver board choke

Post by altecboy Mon May 20, 2019 7:23 am

My Mk 3's recently got Octal boards and are working well.
Has anyone tried to insert a second choke replacing the 6.8K resistor across the quad cap? I have a pair of 15H, 20mA units that would seem to be a good fit.

    Any input appreciated.

    Demands the question: Why?

    It's a quest.
Better filtering = cleaner sound usually.

    Understood.

Magic word here is "usually ".

If the existing filtering is enough, the results will be nil. But! If you have a scope, have a look at the B+ for yourself, and see if it it would be useful.

There is approximately 25mV of ripple at the B+ input to the octal board.

I'm not aware of any chokes that have a DCR of more than 1K, and certainly not 6.8K
You would need a choke with a 500v rating and 200ma capacity.
