I have been going over in my head a few days now on an amplifier design similar to the Dynaco 120w design posted on the forum several months back, and I was thinking since the EL34's are a much easier tube to drive than the KT88's,and less expensive couldn't one just substitute the output tubes, with some modifications of course such as feedback, etc. the design would yield about 80-90 watts with the right iron, and such. Input appreciated.

Re: Amplifier Brainstorm
My 2 cents. I don't care for the sound of the EL34. I think it has less bass and highs than the in your face big KT88. The EH 6CA7 big bottle is a much better sounding tube than the EL34. About the same price.
I think if you are going to the expense of quad power tube mono amp. I would spend the extra 100 to 200 for the KT88. But it's just my opinion.

I can't say much for the differences seeing the only time I've heard the KT88/6550's was in a Audio Research amplifier years ago,but never any direct comparison to the EL34,but I appreciate the input and the KT88 is a nice tube though.
