    transformer leads Empty transformer leads

Post by grizzinca Mon Nov 12, 2012 12:03 am

My old st70 has seen better days. Prior to me owning it, someone has spliced new wire onto some of the leads. Is it an acceptable practice to remove the bells from the output trans and splice new wire, then heat shrink over the splice? or do I need new trannies? They test ok with an ohm meter now. Any advice?. Thanks

Removing the bells and splicing on new wires is (IMHO) an acceptable fix. Heat shrinking the connection is also a good idea. The 5 wires on the primary side of the output transformers are carrying about 430 volts. You don't want to risk a short to the outer bell on your output transformers.
