Re: new PH16 phono preamp build
Nice to see another one going together Roy. I like the new power supply board! When I built mine I evaluated both the 155J choke and just the 1k resistor. The difference after the regulators wasn't measurable on my scope. Might as well omit the choke and get rid of another source of noise in the chassis.
For those with a low output MC cartridge, I highly recommend giving this phono stage a listen. If you dont have a low output MC cartridge, you should experience one anyway . I've been spinning vinyl noticeably more since I built mine, which is usually my best way to gauge how I like a design.

Re: new PH16 phono preamp build
Roy will be putting a PH16 together for me as well. I ordered mine with the 16" chassis so I could stack one of Roy's PH14 octal line-stage preamps on top, being nice equipment stands are hard to find overseas. I'll get back to you once I receive my new PH16. I can assure you I won't be disappointed:)

Re: new PH16 phono preamp build
I've always enjoyed phono stages with volume controls. There aren't that many out there since most people don't have a phono only system, which I have. Is there any way this kit could be configured with one and run it straight into a ST-35?

Re: new PH16 phono preamp build
So, no additional gain required that a traditional preamp provides? Sounds good.

Re: new PH16 phono preamp build
you should be fine, depending on your cartridge, standard spec is 5mv output with MM, a standard phono board would have 40db gain,
the PH16 low gain version has about 46db gain, a standard line preamp has 10-14db gain.
PM or email me for any particular questions, thanks
