I'm tweakin' on Hank Wilson's Back as we speak. IMHO, best album he ever cut.

Never heard of these guys, enjoyed that video a lot and, as it turns out, they are playing here in Calgary this very weekend!

Noob,
here's another act to catch when they get to Calgary, which is fairly often.

Bill Kirchen is an amazing guitar player. He can play any style and make the Telecaster talk. Seen him live many times with Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen and solo during my Austin, TX days.

Re: The tune of the day
I guess Idaho's claim to fame is that George Frayne of aforementioned Commander Cody was born in Boise. At least it offsets somewhat Carol King's annoying presence here for several decades.arledgsc wrote:deepee99 wrote:Bill Kirchen -- Hammer of the Honky-Tonk Gods

At the recent Axpona audio fest I picked up a cd produced by chesky records. Noah Wall sings classic bluegrass music and this recording puts her and her band mates right in the room with you. Beautifully performed and recorded and highly recommended.

Chesky Records is a unique outlet for superb recording. They have remastered practically the entire Reader's Digest "Great Classics" catalog, which don't sound like no big deal except it is a superbly performed and recorded series from the 60s. The sound of these issues is something special; though a bit demanding in the top register, the sonics are something else. And I discovered thanks to corndog a new series of headphone-specific binaural Chesky issues, the download-only sampler of which makes my new tubes4hifi amp sing like no tomorrow.

Two of my favorites.
If Bob can post a Gwar music video this should be here too.

Re: The tune of the day
This one's a tearjerker, both inherently and by circumstance. Glen Campbell's Alzheimer's has progressed to the stage where he can no longer play the guitar at all. He recorded this as-yet-unreleased Jimmy Webb song just before it was too late:

I was at a Half Priced Books store and found the Mythologies CD by Patricia Barber. I liked it so much I bought the Cafe' Blue and Modern Cool CD's. All three are great and the recordings are so good that tube amps make them sound even better.
