st70 current draw

if i was to use a multimeter to read the current draw of an st70 what kind of reading will i get?
if i install two amp meters in a variac project one reading 1-10 amps and the other milliamps would these be wired in series or parallel?

ST70 uses right about 1.5A. Simple ohms law, next to the AC power plug on the back it says 175w (175w/120v=1.5A) the manual says 190w max.
