Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have been a Dynaco fan since the 60's and like probably most folks here built kits while in high school. I picked up what looks to be a mono tube amp the other day. It's missing the tubes and 1 knob but other that that it looks pretty good. Problem is I can't figure out what it is. It's marked Model EA-2 on the front but I can't find any reference to a Model EA-2 anywhere on the electronic hiway. My guess is that it's a model-EA-2 and it was so unpopular that it's never mentioned in polite company. Any ideas?

Re: Dynaco amp
a 10 second google search brings up all kinds of EA-2 info, it's most likely a Heathkit (certainly it must say that somewhere)

Re: Dynaco amp
Whoops, Heathkit! I don't know why I thought it was a Dynaco. Sorry.

Re: Dynaco amp
Mine's missing that groovy gold plate in front that proclaims "Heathkit" Hence the confusion.

Re: Dynaco amp
It might sound a lot like a Dynaco...the output stage is very similar to that of a Stereo 35, only mono but we perhaps should say it the other way round, as the Heathkit came first.

You gotta buy another to make your purchase complete. They come up on ebay. EA-3s are more common, but EA-2s are heavier (different xformers.) They're 6bq5 based; sound lovely.

Perfect, though, for a small-room mono system.
