Anyone have a current source for the can cap? All the links in the various listings here seem to point to places that list themas out of stock.
Was thinking perhaps get 2 of eaual value that are rated at lower voltage and wire them in series, thus each would only see half the voltage - but of course that only yields half the capacitance (unlike resistors in series)...

    Other than $75 on e-bay
altho there seem to be plenty of them listed.

    Thanks

    Hi Robert,

Dynakitparts sells the high quality German 80, 40, 30, 20 cap. It is rated at 550 volts which is about 100 volts higher than the ST-70 operates. It is the best quad cap you can use in the ST-70 and costs considerably less than the $75 Ebay cap. Kevin is presently out of stock on this cap but he told me that he will be getting some in probably next week. Give him a call and he will put one aside for you when they do come in. Check out the link below.

Where to get 80-40-30-20 cap for ST70 Empty cap can

Thanks Bob, I sent an e-mail to Kevin asking to have one set aside.

I bought an Dynakit ST70 on e-bay that looks pretty stock to me as the cans and caps underneath say Dyaco on them. Nice wiring work underneath too.

After reading the forum here, am thinking I should probably replace a few parts, like the Can, the 2 caps under the output transformer that go to -35 (-65? don't have schematic in front of me), and the selenium rectifier with a diode so I am not surprised at some point with major failure.

Also bought a few spare 7199s on e-bay. When I bought the amp, one channel had some hum that that I traced to the 7199. Put another one in, no hum at all now. Other tubes seem more available, so have not bought spares for them yet.

Have used it for 3-4 hours on several weekends now, sounds very nice driving a pair of JBL L3t (bought new in 1985 or so). Source is a Philips CD player (have to look at the model), headphone jack with level control going right into the amp, plenty of volume available - when wife & son are not home!

Replaced foam surround on one woofer, the other doesn't have holes in it (yet) but just a matter of time I think, will be replacing it one of these weekends.

    Robert
