    another silly question . can a 6H30PI be used in place of a 12au7 ?thx for your patience !

    To my knowledge there is no direct substitute for the 6H30 tube. The pin out is also different than a 12AU7. The 6H30 also sucks much more filament current than a 12AU7.

    a good way for 'newbies' to learn about different tubes and their compatibility with other tube models, enter the tube model into your search engine and call up the data sheet for that tube. It will tell you everything you need to know, including the pinout and filament current. You may not necessarily understand all the numbers and other data, but spend some time comparing the data sheets of two different tubes, and some things and numbers should start to make sense. study
