    You can use metal polish to get the scratches out. Mothers, Blue Magic, Nevr-Dull, or similar will work. I've had better luck with the cream style (Mothers, Blue Magic, etc) vs wadding (Nevr-Dull). If you have something similar in the garage/shed, try it on the bottom cover first to see if you get the result you are looking for.
