Power Supply Upgrade for PAS 2 - Empty Power Supply Upgrade for PAS 2 -

Post by Mr Ridesglide Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:34 pm

Sorry, but I didn't want to open a 14 year old thread about Tubes4HiFi making a power supply drop in for my PAS 2. I see Triode sells one either populated or unpopulated. Is there any more that anyone is aware of that I may like more?
Got my box of goodness from Dan today and getting all excited to get my first ST-70 up and running!
    Game on!

Power Supply Upgrade for PAS 2 - Empty Power Supply Upgrade for PAS 2

Hi --- there are some listings on ebay for "Dynaco Pas Power Supply" PCBs (Raw and Populated).

Do an Internet Google Search for "Dynaco Pas Power Supply" and see what turns up.

There should be other PS boards and kits besides Triode.

Awesome - What I did was buy the Triode board SD Labs - and checked my home inventory for .1uf caps , resistors, diodes. I ended up with $30.00 worth of components from Digikey.
So I'll be set. I held off on the fuse holder until I see exactly which board arrives, as I've heard there are a couple versions floating around. i ordered 47, 47, 47, 10 as I plan on using the 12x4 for rectification.

I got all the parts for this upgrade - and I probably over thought this. I read somewhere that the Rectifier, a 12x4, does not want more than a 10uF cap. So I bought 3 47uF and one 10uF. If using the link below, and seeing the layout of the SD Labs board, which cap should I make the 10uF? I feel like it's C1, but it's just a tad over my head. I think that I got the 10uF in my head from the tube data sheet here: https://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/127/1/12X4.pdf

    You read "typical operating.."
you can safely use the 47uF cap that the kit is built for.

Thank you Peter - I am still wondering which location is most correct to use the 10uF as I have only three 47uF caps. IIRC, the original has 10,20,20,30 - So I should be able to use it 10,47,47,47.

Then put it first. And if disturbing hum occurs order another 47uF ( that's an "if" )

BTW, PAS is very sensitive to cable routing.
I have found that when using these power boards the ground and B+ connections can be
routhed on top of the chassies. Not crossing the board and
close to the steel on top side, the twisted filements well distanced from the boards.

Also a jumper between eyelet 1 and 8 on the line board sometimes kills residual hum.

    Great information Peter! Thank you!
So, up against chassis it is! I see that mine isn't as organized as some of the others. Perhaps I'll spend some time on that!
    Thank you again Peter.
