Hi everyone. I have an SCA-35 that just had the Gillespie mods completed with new boards, etc. A CD player connected to the "spare" input sounds wonderful. However, the built in phono section doesn't sound that great. I thought I would try to connect an external phono preamp to one of the other inputs to see if it sounded any better. I tried both tape inputs, radio and spare. All sounded horrible, sometimes sound only came out of one channel. Is this amp made in such a way to prevent using an external phono amp? Any idea how to fix this so it works?

on spare ( and most likely will work on radio and tape input) indicates that your
external phono is not working.
