Just wondered if anyone here had tried these in their VTA boarded amp. Opinions?

Hmmm, well, I just recieved some in the mail and they seem to work just fine with no detectable difference in gain on the high gain board. Guess we'll see what they really sound like in a few hours...

A 5965 tube is like a 12AV7 tube and has a little less gain than a 12AT7 tube. It has the same pin-out as a 12AT7, 12AU7, 12AX7 etc. and should work fine on the standard gain VTA driver board. Personally, I have never tried a 12AV7/5965 tube in a standard gain VTA driver board. Understand that the resistor set on that board was optimized for 12AT7 tubes and a 5965 tube may or may not sound better than a 12AT7.

Well, I bought them for several reasons. They were VERY cheap, very close to 12AT7's and NOS american tubes. I couldn't detect THAT much of a difference right out of the box, so I feel confident about using them. Just a matter of time now.
