    SP12 with PH14 Empty SP12 with PH14

Post by DavidR Tue May 12, 2020 9:55 pm

I've had my ST-120 amp for a few years now and have been using the Pre from my SS gear rack. Since the tube amp + vinyl + AR10Pi speakers have been just wonderful to listen to jazz I decided to go with an all tube system. This idea was backed by a need to move my SS gear down to the Living room as I need the 500 wpc amp for my AR9 speakers; plus my office was cramped with the gear and 3 sets of speakers.

I had Roy build this system for me. There is another level of tubiness when using an all tube set up !  Very Happy
Just hope I can get rid of the hum in the Phono. Pre board is quiet.

    SP12 with PH14 New_pr11

    SP12 with PH14 Sp12_410

Once all is set up I will have the amp, the pre w/ phono, a TT, a tuner and a CD player that has a pair 12AX7A tubes for the output stage.

I built an SP12 and a separate PH16 and they sound amazing.  I left room in the SP12 to add a PH14...Hope yours sound great as well!

It does sound great except for the hum in the Phono. No hum in the Pre board. I chose those two models because I have a lot of 12AU7 and variants and a few 12AX7A for the CD player.

Tubes are addictive. Try to but just one.

That's a lot of tubes! Does it get hot?

It gets warm but not hot. Plenty of air vents on the top and aluminum dissipates rather quickly.
