IEC panel mount power socket. Empty IEC panel mount power socket.

    Hi

I’m currently building the ST120 amplifier and would like to utilise an IEC chassis mount power socket for the mains electricity.
Is there any possible issues with this idea?
I can’t decide between a female or male panel mount power socket.
Is there a preferred amp rating for the IEC? Eg 10 amp?
    Thanks

I have an ST120 on pre order and was thinking about doing the same thing. I would think 10amp would be fine. The amp has a 5amp slow blow fuse and I don't think inrush would be an issue.

The only issue I see is if there is enough clearance between the rear chassis panel and the power transformer.

    See http://n.manet.nu/vta70/ST70-IEC.jpg
for how it may be done. And yes, i used a IEC connector with built-in fuse.

    peterh,

In the image you linked to is shows what appears to be a solid state relay in the lower left. Did you add this in order to add a more accessible power switch?

I've got a deposit down on a st-120 and planning out just how I want to build it when it comes in.

    Thanks,

    simpleton

The ssr are used for remote power control. 12 volts are tapped from the pre and is used to control
the SSR. I don't use the power switch.
