I've searched the forum and found no references to phono preamp options for low output moving coils. Do any of you folks have a killer phono setup for your Stereo70, 120 or Mk III?

PH11 has 52 db gain, PH12 has up to 60db gain, so it's good for .03mv MC,
but step-up coil would most likely be quieter on either one, ton's of gain doesn't make for a quiet phono output

I'm sympathetic that there doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there for us MC cartridge guys, but I get the impression that using a step up transformer (SUT) is pretty standard practice.
I'm using a kit from K & K audio that was pretty highly recommended. Cost seemed reasonable, the kit was good fun to build. The only extra you'll have to buy are a couple resistors to dial it in for the right . . . ratio of . . . whatever it was. I forget.
So I'd echo Roy's advice -- get a SUT and a nice tube phono pre, such as one of those VTA models. Personal preference, but I why wreck things by going the transistor route when it comes to the phono stage?!
