Remote Volume Control in SP9 Empty Remote Volume Control in SP9

Post by TMadden Thu Nov 20, 2014 6:58 pm

I recently installed a remote volume control in my VTA SP9, just to see how it would work out.
I was lucky enough to have a convenient spot to mount the board, I powered it with what was the
power connection to the power-on indicator , removed the dropping resistor from the LED power indicator and
connected that to the remote board. I then drilled a hole in the front panel for the IR receiver, and chamfered it, and mounted the IR receiver.
    Works great!

Cool! Could we see the front of the SP9?

Does this mean that older VTA preamps can be retrofitted with remotes?

If your preamp uses a potentiometer type volume control , like yours, sure. My SP9 has been subjected to a lot of changes, so it's a little rough around the edges, and it could use a good cleaning, but here's a pic of the front panel with the remote added:

That is very cool. Thanks. What with the new monoblocks and the remote, it must almost be like early Christmas around your house.

Neat! Where did you get the system (Pot + controller/remote)?

All the components were sourced from eBay. The remote kit included an ALPS RK168 motorized pot but I substituted the RK27. The IR receiver , cable and connector were "borrowed" from a another remote kit.
