Re: Vinyl Sales Hit 18-year High
I was curious as to who was selling on vinyl (and by extension, who is buying) so Googled and found this:
http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/vinyl-sales-pass-1m-mark-for-the-first-time-in-almost-two-decades-3310/
Interesting breakdown, lots of new stuff, some old...and surprise, Dark Side of the Moon is on there.

Re: Vinyl Sales Hit 18-year High
18 year high, huh?
(I gotta get me one of those!)
I like vinyl, but still rip it to FLAC for convenience. I also buy a lot from Amazon, and use their "autorip" feature to download MP3s for the HTPC. I keep the original MP3s for road music.
Surprisingly good sound out of those. Variable bit rate right around 256 on average.
PS ... last vinyl was Sia's 1000 Forms of Fear. Yah, I know ... she can get a bit disco, but my word can that lady sing! Excellent mastering and cutting too - nice and quiet.

Barnes and Noble? We're talking MAINSTREAM ...
Also helps to have a really nice shop in the area for browsing new and used ...
About a 30 mile trip for me. I even made some special inserts for the saddlebag on the bike so I can bounce on down the road with some confidence that my "new" vinyl will get home in one piece. Or several pieces if that's what I started with - wouldn't want them melting together on a hot August day either ...
Where it gets interesting - last I checked, there hasn't been a record press built since the mid '60's. Doesn't help that there are increasingly few folk who can rebuild and repair the old ones.
Fun read about what all goes into bringing the old monsters back to life ...

Re: Vinyl Sales Hit 18-year High
The sales figures in my initial post were I believe just for the UK.
Here's one from the (London) Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2852413/Vinyl-records-sales-hit-18-year-high-past-one-million-mark-2014.html
Be interesting to know if North American sales are trending at the same rate.

Re: Vinyl Sales Hit 18-year High
Finally decided on a new copy of Dark Side of the Moon on 180g vinyl , my old copy is probably 40 years old. What a great listening experience. Amazon automatically put 320kbps files in my cloud account which also included the full concert (album in full) at Wembley London 1974, nice bonus...I think I have purchased more vinyl this year than any other.
