Heard good words about these tubes. Gonna retube my Dyna Mark III. Which is a better choice. Any other options?

    Thank you for your input.

The GL KT-88 are wonderful sounding tubes. I swaped them for my GL KT66's., which are highly praised around this forum for our applications. Hey, I'll sell ya my 6 pack of KT-66's, but I have to say the 88's were as much or more of an improvement over the 66's as tje 66's were over the sovtek88's.

Sorry I have no experience of the tung sols to offer.

Might want to consider the TAD lineup. Proof positive I put my money where my mouth is ... and yet another chance to show off.  clown

Reissue Gold Lion KT88 Vs Tung Sol 6550 Tad-tubes

Sounded a bit shrill when new, but broke in sweet. I'd rate them in the same category as the Psvane premium tubes, and the bass is easily as good as the KT120's now that they've got some hours on them. The driver set is a bit brighter than my usual 5963's - a happy compromise between those and the RCA clear tops.

Bit pricey, but hey, you're worth it, right?

    * Some background. Reason they compare so favorably with the Psvane line up is that they're probably the same tube except for badging. Made by Shuguang. Primary difference is quality control - TAD rejects a whole lotta tubes, and puts a lot of extra effort into selection. Quite a bit heavier than your standard KT88 too. Multiples of two automatically get their super duper matching, and they come with a six month guarantee. Not too shabby in this day and age for tubes. Oh. And I did find out what "STR" stands for ... Special Tube Requirements.

TAD? I haven't heard of these. I must have been snoozing. Sounds like a good one to look into. Nice looking tubes.

And you're amp ain't too shabby either, sKiZo-MaN.

TAD ( Tube amp doctor) rebrands various tubes. These seem to be sovtek(i guess)

I would think it would take more than hyper-matching to coax sov teks to sound better than GL kt-88, but I'm open to persuasion as well as bribery for that matter.

I've used TAD 6L6's with good results... been happy with them in the past and will continue to look at them for the future. I'm still running a quad of matched 6L6's from the Tube Amp Doctor in some highly modified Heathkit W4's and they were a marked improvement over a handful of other brands. Considering the W4 is not a world class hi-fi amp even with the mods, every little bit helps.

To day  my MK3s are running 6550.....why..what speakers you use may need some Eqing an this can be a good thing............
I run planers....Apogee Stages. Acoustats.3...Magnepans MG2.5r...MC1c...the KTxx there lowend seems pushup I find...
The topend seem the same are close to the 6550s....but the lowend being up...can sound like the  top is roll off...now when I run my none planer B&W or Theils....JM lab... the KTxx top being roll off can
be great.....but to me ...6550 sound like there frequency response if flatter...an as for output ....vary close with the planers...The KTxx give little more output with none planers......
if I run EL34 sound to me.....  like if you took the KTxx bass pushup
added... just the same pushup of the mid-top all togather.....hehe I gess you just need one quad of ea.....if I only could get one quad............6550.... less I was running klipsch.....juse my take....

    thanks for the site Bob

zx, surf to the "for sale" link on this site for some premium ancient New Jersey TS-6550 quads. All tested and matched, or PM me or email directly at 999silver@gmail.com
I have them listed on a few other sites and priced to go, so if you want them, lemme know. I give first preference to this board's members, but am lacking patience.

zx, I have no worry they will sell, here or elsewhere. That's my problem as well, I am tubed-up and need some shelf space. (Maybe for drivers?)
