Re: My latest recording - Joy Spring
The ES 175 is unchanged in any way since 1949. How many other products can say that?

Re: My latest recording - Joy Spring
That is truly a modern classic -- a contemporary guitar unchanged since they got it right in '49.
Years ago when my son was taking guitar lessons, he had a mind to do better than his Squire, and had his eye on a Epiphone Alley cat (Kat?) -- pretty sure that's what it was. The teacher recommended parents make a deal where we match dollar for dollar what ever the kids can save and earn. Good for them to have some of their own sweat involved in earning their own guitar. I loved the idea, and of course, I was only looking at a cost of about $350. How much damage can a 13 year old do?! Knock yourself out, kid.
Darn it if he didn't get a summer gig digging window wells, lawn mowing and who knows what else. He saved $1700 with a view to a 335, with the help of my commitment to match his contribution. Jaw-Droppingly not what I had in mind, but how could I crush his hopes? His enthusiasm? His perseverance? Well, I suppose I could have said "no."
He still has that guitar, 12, 13 or so years later. It's been a wonderful guitar for him, though now it's only one of several nice instruments.
