Bob -- thanks again for a great project.  Received it last Wednesday and finished it up this part Monday evening. Has EL34's and  once I get a few hours on it, will compare you kit I build 3 years ago that as KT-66's.  Thus far, I like the low end response of the 34's with some small bookshelf Paradigm's BUT nice Ray Brown LP input.  Will need to try with some CD input next. I did find some NOS RCA 12AU7's which I am trying out too.  thanks again for your support and quick delivery.  This is a preent for my best friend who is finally starting to get into tube / analog.

    Hi Brad,

Happy to hear that your recent build of a VTA ST-70 went as well as your 2013 build. Let me know how the sound of the VTA ST-70 works out in your friend's music system ?

Bob -- will certainly do. He now has to find some speakers. He lives in Detroit area and needs to go to some decent shops to start listening. I am trying to convince him on Sonus Faber's but those can be $$$!. What recommendations on other brands / models do you have we could test drive?

A lot of the speakers that are a good value for the money are only available through the internet like > Tyler Acoustics and Tekton. You could also check out the Totem speakers. These are carried by Home Logix across the border from Detroit in Kingsville Ontario. They also carry Paradigm speakers.

How much is too much? Recently heard a pair of Focal 716 floor standers, and I'd be seriously tempted if I was in the market.

    Around $700 ...

As to speakers - I vote for small Maggies such as the MGA or SMGa, if space permits. They are typically reasonable to purchase, are well within the capacity of that amp and offer an unsurpassed sound-stage.

If space does not permit - all of my other suggestions are quite vintage and would probably raise hackles here.... AR....pale   I have a very hard time with speakers that cannot move air, and tiny little woofers (mid/upper mid by any other name) just don't cut it.
