Cabinet for ST-120 DIY
Started building a prototype cabinet for the ST-120. Using cheap poplar for now. If I like it I'll redo out of Walnut at nearly $8 a board foot!

Finish applied.....Waiting for meters from China. Mocked it up with a couple photos. Volumn control too big? Comments?
I stained it Mahogany. The feet are an exotic African wood turning blank that I had kicking around. Budinga Wood or something like that. Four coats of Minwax Polyurethane, sand with 220 grit in between coats.....

Re: Cabinet for ST-120 DIY
Well, after it is done, it isn’t going to work as I planned. The meters are much deeper than the drawing showed and they will not fit. Therefore I’ll go in another direction for the front panel and sell this one to someone that can use it. Like I said, it was a prototype....Nice thing about this base is nothing attaches to the amp. Two screws and the rear bar is removed and the amp just drops in. The front panel can be customized any way you like. Power switch, LEDs, meters, etc......or just a nice brass name tag....(Those "meters" are just photos for the picture)

Rbertalotto.....
I just love those tubes and those massive gigantic transformers !
Some of the best looking and sounding amps I have run across in many years.

Re: Cabinet for ST-120 DIY
This was the prototype for the cabinet I finally settled on. I'm selling it to someone on this board at a reduced price from other areas I've posted it. I built a Prototype base for my VTA ST-120 amplifier and then built the final version. The prototype is now for sale. It will fit a VTA ST120 and a ST70 if they have the same chassis size (I'm not sure about this). If you have the optional level control, the knob will need to be removed rendering the control inaccessible. Or it can be relocated to the front panel for access. You will need RCA cords with small right angle connectors or relocate the RCA jacks as needed. There is room in the front panel for small meters but the owner will need to cut holes and verify fit. Price is $150 shipped. PayPal accepted or postal money order. Send me an email to purchase.

Nice design idea. Just drop the amp in. I built a wood box recently and during the build I ran across this excellent ideo of a bunch of simple, easy corner joints ideas.

Rbertalotto when is your prototype cabinet going to be finished ?..... I really like the design of your cabinet. It's a very simple design and there is a lot of room for the amp to breath and stay cool.
