Election Cartridge

I wonder if ye Sumiko Pearl cartridge used with the Dynaco configuration.

Some sites are raving about this cartridge, and elsewhere mention the lack of bass, although I have not read any comments from tests on a valve equipment.

I've used a Sumiko Pearl with a VTA preamp & ST70 amplifier.  Overall, I'd say it's a good cartridge for the money.  I don't find it to be lacking in bass and I had to spend more than twice as much to get a cartridge that sounded better.  It tracks very well, especially after you have the proper force & anti-skate settings.  The background is very quiet and the music sounds accurate & honest.

This is on an old Sansui turntable with a heavy arm.  Most of the complaints I've seen came from use with newer, lightweight tonearms so perhaps that makes a difference.

Are you looking for a cartridge that has full bass?  Nothing against the Pearl but I'll mention Grado too.  They have a unique design & sound character.  their "color" series (black, green, blue, gold) pass through the same price range.  They're very warm and I think they're great for full warm (but not exaggerated) bass.

I use a Stanton 681EEE and a friend recommended the Sumiko, but I was worried about some bad reviews.

I use Rega RB300 arm with Lenco L75 restored and may not be suitable for Sumiko arm.

From what I've seen, +1 on the "classic" tables, as the Pearl is supposed to be not compliant enough and perhaps unsuitable for ultra revealing high end new tech. Only other complaint I've seen is that it takes forever for the cantilever to break in properly. Could be the bad reviews are from folk expecting instant gratification. Same issue with a lot of cartridges though ...

That said, I got an Oyster with a thrift shop table that was surprisingly good. I run that on my backup table.
